Recommendations for protecting you and your family from COVID-19

Right now, there is no vaccine to prevent coronavirus disease (COVID-19); that’s why the best way to prevent it is to avoid being exposed to this virus.

First, we have to know how COVID-19 it spreads. Covid19 is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person and between people who are in close contact with each other.

When a covid19 infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks, the respiratory droplets they produce can go inside the mouths or noses of nearby or possibly inhaled into the lungs.

General recommendations

     1. Wash your hands often.

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after being in a public place or if you blow your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
  • You can use a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol, covering all the surfaces of your hands, rubbing them together until they are dry.
  • Also, avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth if you have your hands dirty.
  •

     2. Keep a social distance:

  • Inside your home: Avoid having close contact with people who are sick, and when possible, maintain 6 feet between all the people that live in your home.
  • Outside your home: Remember that some people without symptoms still may be able to spread the virus, so put 6 feet of distance between yourself and people who don’t live with you.
  •

     3. Cover your mouth and nose with a mask when around others

  • You could spread COVID-19 to others even if you do not feel sick. The mask is meant to protect other people if you are infected.
  • Everyone should wear a mask in public spaces and when around people who don’t live.
  •

     4. Clean and disinfect

  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily.
  • If surfaces are dirty, clean them. Use detergent or soap and water before disinfection.
  • Then, use a household disinfectant. The most common EPA-registered household disinfectants will work.
  •

      5. Learn what to do if you feel unwell

  • Do you know the most common symptoms of Covid19? They are fever, dry cough, and tiredness. Some people also have other less common symptoms, such as loss of taste or smell, aches, pains, headaches, sore throat, nasal congestion, red eyes, diarrhea, or a skin rash.
  • Stay home and self-isolate even if you have minor symptoms such as cough, headache, mild fever until you recover.
  • Seek medical attention immediately if you have a fever, cough, and difficulty breathing.
  • Keep reading the latest information from sources you trust and your local and national health authorities.
